Touching Lives Worldwide provides a school for deaf children.
Before our school existed, these deaf children lived in a lonely and isolated world. Their limited world offered very little hope for them because of how people saw and treated them.
Many believed that deaf children were possessed with evil spirits; and, most believed that it was the reason that they were deaf. In fact, in many cases, one or both parents rejected them. Even their siblings would treat them differently. Other children did not want to play with them.
These children had no education because there was no school for deaf children to attend. So, the end result was that these children were growing up not knowing their own name, not knowing their age, and not knowing how to tell time or even what colors were. Sadly, many of them have experienced psychological or physical abuse at sometime in their life.
But, God had a plan for us to do something about their situation; and, we did!
Today our school is flourishing and is helping to make a “real difference” in the lives of these “special-need” kids. In addition, through the results of our school, along with our other community programs, we have helped to change the past warped thinking that their parents, siblings, friends, & neighbors, and the town people had towards deaf children.
Simply put, they now have a purpose and feel like their lives are worth something.
